Ocorian expands into Miami with appointment of Brian Trombley

Americas Funds Team

Ocorian helps asset managers handle operational and regulatory complexity at scale. Today, it announced that Brian Trombley has joined as Senior Director/CFO, based in Miami. Brian's arrival gives Ocorian a presence in Miami. It's the firm's third U.S. expansion this year, after Dallas and Boston, and it adds senior fund finance expertise in one of the country's most dynamic markets for alternative asset managers.

Growth tests a manager's investment strategy, and it also tests the operation behind it. As managers raise new funds, add strategies and take on more sophisticated investors, the finance function has to do more. Valuations get closer scrutiny, allocations become more complicated and investors expect more transparency. The managers who scale well tend to be the ones who build that strength before they need it. Brian has spent more than 15 years working in that pressure.

Brian Trombley will report to Brian Smith, Head of CFO Solutions U.S. He'll work with alternative asset managers who want the structure, insight and discipline to scale with confidence, so they can stay focused on raising capital, deploying it and delivering for investors.

Brian Smith said: "Miami is attracting managers who are building something new, and those managers need a finance function that can keep up. Brian has spent his career on the hardest parts of fund accounting: the valuations, the allocations and the waterfall calculations that investors test hardest. That expertise, based in Miami, means clients can expect sharper answers, sooner.

"Dallas, Boston and now Miami. Each step this year places our senior expertise where our clients are growing, so complexity never becomes the thing that holds them back."

Brian Trombley said: "After 15 years working closely with a variety of alternative investment funds, you learn where the pressure builds. It's rarely the investment thesis. It's the operational detail underneath it. Managers deserve to spend their time on the strategy, not on rebuilding their finance function every time the business moves forward.

"Ocorian's approach is to get the detail right, take ownership of it and give managers the space to grow. That's what drew me here, and I'm looking forward to bringing it to managers in Miami and beyond."

Brian joins Ocorian from CBIZ/Marcum, where he was a Shareholder/Partner. There he led a variety of engagements for private equity funds, hedge funds, funds of funds, broker-dealers and registered investment companies.

Before that, Brian spent 12 years at PwC. He led reviews of fund and management company financial statements, covering fair value measurement, derivatives, and capital allocation models that include hurdle, preferred return and carried interest calculations. He is a Certified Public Accountant and sits on the Investment Management Committee of the New York State Society of CPAs.
