Job Description
Purpose of the role
Responsible for developing and governing a group-wide data strategy to drive business decisions and growth.
Build and oversee the ongoing accuracy and effectiveness of a group-wide cloud based data warehouse (“one source of the truth”) - initially focussed on financial and commercial data, before expanding to include operational and other performance data. In parallel, oversee the existing on-premises data warehouse while it remains in existence
Work with business leaders to ensure the information provided by the group data (content, format, accessibility) enables better business decisions and accelerated delivery of the business strategic objectives.
[Note that this role holder does not have responsibility for the on-going technical infrastructure, nor the data engineering capabilities associated with the cloud data warehouse, which will reside with the Technology function]
Main Responsibilities
The role will initially encompass the following key areas of responsibility
- Define a clear data strategy for the group, and implement a governance framework to ensure business-wide understanding of, and compliance with, the group data strategy
- The design, build, testing and roll out of a new cloud-based data warehouse which delivers the information needed by the business to make better decisions
- Build a team to effectively manage and oversee the new data warehouse and associated data governance requirements in order to deliver against business expectations, and ultimately deliver the group data strategic objectives
- Oversee the activities that remain within the existing on-premises data warehouse while that remains in existence
In order to achieve this, the role holder will need to:
- Implement a data strategy (and associated definitions, policies and procedures) aligned with business goals, including data governance, analytics, and operational reporting
- Establish and chair a Data Governance forum to oversee the data strategy and facilitate on-going enhancements to the data framework
- Implement an intuitive, structured management reporting structure such that timely, accurate information is provided to the business in a meaningful, usable format to enable business objectives to be delivered
- Work closely with service line and functional teams to ensure source data is complete, consistent, and appropriately safeguarded and managed
- Build, lead, motivate and retain a collaborative, high-performing Data Analytics, Governance, and Solutions team to drive data insights, system improvements, and operational efficiencies.
- Lead data initiatives such as master data management, embedding a data culture and constructive training while supporting executive management with bespoke analytical insights.
- Drive novel external and internal insights resulting in tangible economic gains through, for example, increased customer win rate, expanded gross margin, improved revenue recovery or improved operational efficiency. Combining a thorough understanding of the business and data strategy.
- Build and maintain strong working relationship with executives, stakeholders and colleagues.
- Monitor industry developments to bring best practices and new ideas on data to the business
- Identify future opportunities to better leverage our data and consider future monetisation as applicable

Qualifications Required
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience in Data, Intelligence, and Analytics, ideally across international complex services businesses, with experience within finance or similar functions
- Strong leadership, communication and influencing skills - ability to build relationships and influence to drive change without direct control
- Executive gravitas - able to chair / lead senior multi-functional forums
- Strong project management skills, delivering objectives and milestones on time.
- Proven ability to lead, grow and manage a team
- Excellent analytical, presentation, and report-writing skills with a focus on performance improvement.
- Ability to quickly flex between strategic discussions / vision into granular systems and process issues
- 5-10 years’ experience in a senior-level data management role.
- Tangible evidence of experience in driving practical change in business
- Proven ability to drive revenue growth and improved profitability through new products, improved efficiency and lower costs.
