Purpose of the role

This leading role in the growing data and analytics team will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of individual initiatives within Ocorian’s long-term data strategy.

The required candidate will have a value-first approach to work, managing the rapid delivery of initiatives and ensuring they lead to economic gains.

This will involve close collaboration with stakeholders across the organisation on a range of projects from tactical to strategic, leveraging and developing a broad spectrum of skills – from the technical, through quantitative to communication and change management.

Main Responsibilities

Lead initiatives within Ocorian’s data strategy

Work with the data team and other internal stakeholders to support the management of projects in Ocorian’s data strategy

  • Manage the delivery of analytics use cases projects within the wider data strategy by:
    • Gathering and distilling use case requirements into target outputs
    • Working with 3rd party data engineers/consultants to develop any required data infrastructure
    • Coordinating BI analysts to deliver quality outputs with the desired outcomes of each use case
    • Identifying and mitigating project risks, raising the most significant with the CDO
    • Develop strong relationships with internal stakeholders to oversee the adoption of outputs
  • Feedback data quality, process, or system concerns to data leadership
  • Feedback learnings form the delivery of analytics use cases to data leadership, helping to shape the iteration of the wider data strategy
  • Setup and maintain best practice frameworks for data analysis tools (e.g. Power BI), data modelling and storage
  • Enforce the adoption of these best practices across the organisation
  • Lead the delivery of training in data analytics tools and information security to the data team and wider business
  • Maintain an exemplary standard of data governance and security

Qualifications Required

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years’ experience of operating in business intelligence / analytics
  • Excellent understanding of data in context and the business benefits and risks associated with high quality analytics and reporting
  • Expert skillset in data visualization tools, specifically Power BI
  • Strong skillset in relational databases (specifically Microsoft SQL Server) and data management (specifically dbt)
  • Experience with object-oriented programming (e.g. VBA, R, Python)
  • Exposure to cloud-based technologies (specifically the Fabric suite)
  • Advanced planning, analytical and conceptual skills to evaluate business problems and identify and apply appropriate solutions
  • Demonstrable experience of developing plans from scratch, gathering requirements from varied stakeholders, working autonomously and making decisions
  • Demonstrable experience partnering with senior managers, managers, and employees at senior levels to achieve success at deliverables across the wider business
  • Ability to communicate with senior stakeholders through excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively coordinate cross-functional problem-solving teams
  • Ability to provide expert steer and knowledge into wider team settings
