Purpose of the job
The Ocorian Global Accounting team manages an increasing number of jurisdictions across the world. The team is based in Mauritius and reports into the Mauritius Finance Director.
This role is in the Global Accounting team which is led by the Head of Global Accounting supported by three leaders each responsible for designated tasks and regions.
The Team Leader is responsible for the day-to-day execution of all accounting tasks for specific region and assist on overseeing the operations.
Main Responsibilities
Financial operations
- Create relevant vendor cards and perform periodic review on vendor maintenance
- Ensure that all transactions are recorded on-time and financial obligations of the company are met
- Ensure the month end close process is completed on a timely basis with analysis provided to support results
- Prepare and review of management accounts and ensure commentary is accurate
- Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are completed and reviewed on a timely basis for all balances in all entities
- Prepare and review country pack and monthly business review for submission to Country Heads
- Provide technical accounting and support and advise on appropriate accounting treatments, standards and policies
- Support the leaders to drive operational activities and act as accounting subject matter expert.
- Proactively identify, propose and implement process improvement and automations
- Assist in ad-hoc tasks and projects
Financial control, tax and treasury
- Ensure the financial control environment is appropriate and controls are operating as intended
- Ensure statutory accounts, tax returns and other filings are completed for all entities on a timely basis
- Ensure all tax and other statutory payments are completed on a timely basis
- Ensure that all queries from regulatory bodies are attended within the prescribed deadline
- Preparation of complex statutory accounts
- Review of statutory accounts
- Co-manage local audits and support Group audits as appropriate
- Assist on local and Group audits as appropriate
- Coordinate the annual Government fees renewal
- Prepare weekly cash flow forecasts with explanations on cash movement
- Submit monthly capital regulatory requirement reporting
People
- Provide support, coaching and training to the team
- Support continuous process improvement and global centralisation of finance operational tasks
- Assist the manager on the performance objective setting and review process
- Review and maintain the improvement log and come up with plan for remediation
Qualifications Required
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Partly ACCA qualified accountant or equivalent, with at least 5 years' experience, ideally in an internal finance function
- Ability to prepare management accounts and statutory financial statements as per IFRS
- Ability to prepare and file tax computation and VAT computation
- Experience of working with external auditors. Previous audit experience preferred
- Good knowledge and understanding of IFRS
- Solid ERP knowledge (preferably NavOne). Knowledge in Caseware is an advantage
- Previous experience in a multi-jurisdictional environment would be preferable.
- Strong computer software skills, including Excel, Visio, Word & PowerPoint.
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Fluent in English, French is an advantage
